last weeks work

I was off last week so I got to spend some time in the shop. I turned these things and also the metal tool that I posted earlier. The bowls are cherry and apple and the carved piece is cherry. I've also been working on some parts for an antique clock and trying to build a pantry under the steps in the kitchen.
Now I've got to stop that and get turn some pieces for my demo in Birmingham, Al next weekend.

John,
You have been a busy guy. Those pieces are great. The bowls are cool, they have some nice figuring in them.

John,
Very nice job. I like all the wood choices you used. Very sharp.

And here I thought I was doing good, a few days off and I make some wood chips; and that is what your supposed to make. Those are some really nice pieces.
Today I tried to make my first natural edge bowl, I got too thin on the bottom... Well, now its a Natural edge Black Walnut funnel.

One is a fake natural edge. I remove the bark and burned the edge. Then I rubbed brown shoe polish on it and finished up with lacquer.
I'm still iffy about natural edges. I love them but I wonder how long they will last. I think on thin bowls the edge will come off fairly quickly, especially when handled. The thicker bowls have more surface area and the edge may last a lot longer.
Anyone else have any opinions on this.

Dog gone it John those are some cool items. I love the natural edge pieces too. Would have never guessed the one was a burned edge. Nice to know that is even an option to give you the same kind of look.
