I have no idea what type of wood that is. I donít have much knowledge in determining wood species but it is going to be difficult for even an expert to determine what wood the bowls are made of from just that image. Do you have any pictures of the wood before it was turned? Any history on the wood?

The one on the left looks a bit like yellow poplar. It has white sapwood and usually a greenish tinge to the heartwood. It "wood" help to know where you live and whether the wood is local to you. As I recall, Yellow poplar is pretty much an east coast wood. It is normally an easy to turn wood and rather soft.

I live in northeast Iowa. I was just given a piece of wood. I wondered if the one one the right was a soft maple.
