Yes, it does seem like White Oak, also called Burr Oak... dense, and highly durable. But I turned some wood a few years back that came from a non-native large yard tree that looked a lot like this, even heavier than any oak with coarse grain that polished up to a high luster. I never could get the name of it, but it grows long "beans" much like skinny green beans except darker in large clusters... very spikey, dark green leaves. It was amazing stuff to work with.
