Grubs!

So I've got some mesquite that has sprung to life with grubs in the sapwood. You can hear them popping in the wood. No big deal except that I gave a natural edge bowl to a buddy and he can hear them eating away inside. Any ideas how to kill them without damaging the bowl or finish?
First pic is scrap with bark removed. Second is the bowl in question with tung oil/carnuba wax finish.

Well I'm not sure about how it will effect the finish, but you might put the bowl in the oven on a low setting for a few hours. That should kill them.

I'm not entirely sure I'd want a piece like that with rotting corpses in it - it might attract other insects like beetles or ants.

Lightbulb Nuke-em

Depending upon the size of your wood pieces, and the size of your microwave,
Nuke-em....ERRRRRR if you have your wifes permission.

I have used the microwave for several years to get rid of bugs and other varmints. As far as time, play it by ear, set it on less than full power and just give it time.....usually less than an hour

Thanks for the suggestions. My friend put his bowl in the freezer, we'll see. I spent the day cutting mesquite blanks and turning them down past the grub zone. Grub guts were flyin'! The remainder of the logs and all the scraps made a nice big fire. Glad to get them out of my shop.

Yes, put it in the freezer for a couple days. That will kill them dead!
