Green Wood

How long do I have from cutting a log to turning it before the cracking and checking, etc.? I know that depends on the species probably, but just as a general rule- what do you do?

I thought I wanted a career, turns out I just wanted paychecks.

Get the ends sealed as soon as the fallen tree has stopped bouncing.

cherry will start splitting 20 minutes after you cut it around here. Walnut and Maple will do a lot better but I try to get everything coated the same day if possible. If you cut the logs long then you can go a lot longer knowing that you will lose 3 to 6" off each end.
