Football Shaped Birdhouse

I was prepaid to make a Gamecocks' themed football shaped birdhouse. I think I charged too low ($40), but since the guy trusted me in prepaying me, he may shell out some more when I'm finished. So far it's going pretty well. I used some 3 1/2" wood posts from Home Depot. I think they're pine. I was surprised how well the Titebond Ultimate III wood glue held up on the lathe. I had all my protective gear on waiting for a chunk to fly off at me. Made a pretty big mess, but at least I haven't ruined it yet. I spent a lot of time on a bowl for someone else this morning that ended up breaking on me, so this was good redemption. It just needs a finish, entrance hole, logo, eye hook, and laces. I'm hoping he goes with a dark red stain to show off the grain.

Always finding something different on the forum. Thanks for sharing.
This will be a great test for Titebond glue.

If you don't have time to do it right the first time, when will you have time to do it over?

That looks soooooo cool! Love the grain orientation. Gotta question your choice of wood though. The chemicals in pressure treated wood are toxic and I hope you are using a dust extractor. Also $40!!! You must have a gut feeling that it's going to be worth more. Even if you calculate how much time you have invested and multiply by minimum wage, I think it will go over $40

Btw, I'm not being condescending, I've been in that situation before. I kick myself afterwards for giving things away.

I understand that (the cost thing). The guy buying it was a vendor beside me at a craft festival. He and his wife ended up buying more from me than people walking around, so I guess it's fair since they bought other stuff.

I think I'll be alright from turning the compressed wood. I read the chemicals are more copper based opposed to when they used arsenic. The beams had no warnings printed on them like other woods I've seen, and I read they have more problems with corroding screws and nails in them. I'll keep it in mind and try not to turn compressed wood from now on.
