First Mill

So I finally got around to turning a mill. I grabbed what I thought was a 2.5x2.5x10" piece of mahogany... But it wasn't... maybe Maple?

Because it was lighter then I wanted... I decided to make it a Salt mill instead.

Now I need to go buy some salt...

I have a huge solid piece of cocobolo that I can't wait to make into an 18" mill. I'll practice a little more first though.

I did compare it to a different piece that I made from maple... the color and grain are different. So I would now say that it isn't maple.

I pulled this would out of a box of cut off I bought from a guy about 5 years ago. So I really could be anything. If someone else thinks it is canary wood I have no objection to saying that is what it is made out of! Of course it isn't as pretty a piece as Mike just made.

No matter the wood, that's a nice looking mill.
