Question Finish on baby's rattle.

Hi and good morning to everyone, I have been turning some baby's rattles out of Ash and Beech. But the issue of finish has got me stumped! Some say veggie oil is o.k. some say extra virgin olive oil is o.k. I'm pretty sure Walnut oil is out because of the rise of intolerance to nuts bringing on anaphylactic shock, which can be fatal in adults and baby's a like. So can any one help yours in a confused state, Stevie

Finish on a babys rattle

Hi just looking at an old 2000 Woodworker mag, article on a rattle, said "I telephoned Ronseal and settled for its water-based, quick-drying clear satin varnish. I applied four coats, cutting back the final coat with a Scotchbrite pad ". How this helps,I did make one some time ago,and my grandson is still with us 7 now!!!!!
