Finally - Now I'm one of the guys!

Picking up this little guy this afternoon:

http://seattle.craigslist.org/skc/tls/3049850833.html

Can't wait to start turning. I keep seeing my tiny scraps and holding onto them going "Someday... Someday this will be useful!"

Fair warning it is addicting. A bit of advice, watch some videos on you tube, john Lucas, Capt Eddie, haydenhd are ones I like. Any video that makes the learning fun.

Yeah baby ...

If there's a woodturning club in your area, check them out -- the one I go to has several people who are happy to "mentor" new turners, make sure they do things safely, etc.

I took a lesson in pen making at the local Woodcraft store; a year later I took a bowl turning class from the same teacher.

It's really worthwhile having somebody at your elbow to say "a little higher, turn the flute to the right ..." as you are doing it.

Gazooks! I just picked it up.

Came with the lathe, a pen starter kit, a ton of blanks, a bunch of pen kits, a Benjamin's Best set of chisels.

Wowza - the only thing I can think of now is probably a Worksharp to complete this bad boy.

Don't worry, every day you'll think of another thing you can add to it

It's called "The Vortex" for a reason

Have fun!!!

All I get with the link is "This posting has been deleted by its author." So what kind of lathe did you score?

Insert witty signature line here.

Get a grinder and the woverine jig, much more suited to lathe tools than the worksharp.

For CA just go buy some superglue. For an accelerator take 50/50 water and rubbing alcohol. Water is what causes the superglue to cure. Lots cheaper.

First pen complete. I need to shave the ends down a little more and try some different finishes. Man I am ADDICTED.

question - Do you guys "pre round" your edges with a sander or something to make the first go around easier?

Thanks!

Curtis

Now you're in trouble. No to pre rounding. I'll show you some tricks when you come out this way.
