Easy Wood Tools- Catching on the Wood

I am just learning how to use the Easy Wood Tools and I am having a bit of trouble with the piece of mahogany that I am turning. When using the finisher it grabs and start to chatter badly. What might I be doing wrong??

Without standing next to you my guess is one of two things. This tool should be used with the cutter level with the handle or even slightly below level. the cutter should be cutting on the center line of the turning. I don't have one of the finishers but if it is the round one you need to use the area between 10 and 2. If your getting around to the 9 or 3 oclock position it will try to roll on you.

In addition to what John said, make sure you are taking very fine cuts. You have to exercise good control over the tool or it will dig in and wreak a little havoc.

I have the EWT ci3 and only use it for turning the corners of a bowl."NOW,DO NOT TAKE ME AS IN THE CLASS OF JOHN AND MIKE"this is only the way I do it.I use a thum nail from the center to the corner of the bowl, then use my ewt3 from the outside lip of bowl back to the bottom of bowl and just a little more past.I keep my tool cutting at about ten. After I get to the bottom of bowl I use a round nose scraper in the corner,to finished. Now a little sanding and I am done.I sure hope this does not confuse you,as this is the way I learned how to do it.Mack
