cutting burl?

I found a cherry burl that is bigger than a 5 gallon bucket. I was wondering whats the best way to cut this the ge the most out of it and to start the drying process?

Your best bet is to send it to me. All kidding aside, I don't know but would like to know also. I have just found a good sized burl in the neighborhood.

Burls generally show the best figure flat sawn. Meaning parallel to the tree.

I would cut it into bowl blanks or hollow vessel blanks and then rough turn them or finish turn them. I would not try to dry it. You will probably get cracks if you try to dry it. If you want smaller pieces I would cut them up and then seal the ends or dip the whole thing in wax to keep it fresh.
