Chuck thread sizing???

Hen purchasing a chuck, the threads are RH inboard or LH outboard, I understand how to measure the spindle but what does the LH and RH mean?

Typically left hand threaded chucks/inserts are for use on the outboard side of the spindle. A few are threaded both left and right but the norm is right hand threading.

They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin
