canarywood bowl

I've been on a finishing frenzy last few days and this is my third and last entry for tonight (well, for quite a while probably) on the new bowls. This one is canarywood and the topdown view shows it both raw and with the coat of natural stain, just to emphasize how much better canary looks with most ANY kind of liquid finishing agent (wax doesn't always bring out the color as much). The finished bowl has 1 coat of natural stain, 6 coats of shellac, and 3 coats of satin-finish polyurethane.

It WAS going to be an "ashtray bowl" (full story here: http://www.woodworkingtalk.com/f6/bowl-ash-tray-26809/ ) but ended up not being. I LOVE canary wood.

Canarywood is one of my all time favorites. Looks great, smells great when working it. Plenty of character in the colors.

That bowl was perfect right up until that last cut...

Awesome, again.

My wife swears she's seen your work. Do you show at Lyndhurst, or Rhinebeck?

Thanks. No, I don't do shows (maybe someday when I retire)

Another awesome piece of work Paul. I love this canary wood and hopefully will work with it some day. Great stuff buddy.

There is a very fine line between a "hobby" and a "mental illness"

Another great looking bowl, I'm impressed at the squareness you get on all your edges and the bottom.

I want to die quietly in my sleep like my grandfather, not screaming in terror like the passengers of his car.

Thanks Glidden. The squareness is mostly due to the homemade EWT Ci0 scraper that I made. See here: http://www.woodworkingtalk.com/f6/fi...e-gouge-19990/ (I called it a gouge in that post but it's really a scraper)
