burl bowl

i turned this from some wet wood that i cut from a dead stump last week. you might have seen the "what is burl" thread. it came from those pieces. the wood is spalted flaming box elder. the stump stands about 7' tall and has about a 36" radius. it has been savaged by chainsaws and almost none of the original bark is left. but i was able to get a few large pieces that were left because they were hard to get to with a chainsaw i guess. i can't stop staring at it. there is just so much going on.

That's great stuff!

Any trouble with the "solidity" of the burl?

p

...ever notice how "I'm sorry" and "I apologize" mean the same thing, unless you are at a funeral..?

thanks again for the kind words.

txpaulie, in this piece there is some soft wood where the wood has rotted. but where the burl is in "regular" form, it seems totally solid.

thank you. the dimensions are 9" x 4.5" x 5/8" thick walls. i wanted to keep the walls thick to help it stay in this shape while it dries.
