Box Elder Day

I cut a fresh piece off a Box Elder log I brought home last week. I ended up with 2 nice bowl blanks and alot of pen and misc. blanks. One bowl is taking a DNA bath and the other one is anchorsealed along with the other blanks.

That is very pretty. Don't forget that flame box elder (like Persimmon and other species) can host larvae for years unless they are killed in the wood right away. You can't necessarily do that with DNA soaks alone. Those bugs will find something to eat once they hatch and you might not know it for a year or two or three.

Don't set that bowl by a $50K antique clock on a mantle, for example.

Blank Orientation

I'm still trying to figure out how to get bigger blanks like yours. It looks like you cut the circle for the bowl out of the face of the wood like the 'red' circle and not the bark side as in the 'blue' circle as is traditionally done. Which way did you cut yours. Hope you know what I mean. Also, how do you kill bugs i a green turned bowl?

By the way, nice bowl.
