the bowl from HELL!!!

5 days....... 5 days of pampering mothering smothering loving care dear walnut box.... You were perfect in my eyes.... complete, finished, loved. And then, without warning you cracked on me. not an itty bitty but a big aching crack and I cannot forgive you for this. I learned alot from you. You were perhaps the biggest learning experience of my turning career. But dear, youve got to go.You will forever serve to show me that destruction, is indeed, sometimes more fun than creation. Fiery turnin,
Bond
PS Helps if you listen to this music:

LOL

I just had the same thing happen with a spalted Sycamore bowl. Went to have a cup of coffee, before sanding, came back and it had a 1/4" crack right down the one side. Decided not to give up, it has now become a segmented bowl, even although there is only one segment.

A good wood turner once told me, nothing ever goes wrong, sometimes you have to just change the design as you continue turning the piece.

Pure mathematics is, in it's way, the poetry of logical ideas. - Albert Einstein.

Bond,
you sacrificed one to the wood gods. Next time you get a big crack try filling it with some inlace. You would have to mask it with some tape on one side.

I'm not sure I could ever just burn a bowl.
I keep the bad ones around as reminders and use them in the shop,or out in the yard..........

Sometimes a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do.

(And after that, burn a bowl )

But that Andre Rieux ... he just irritates the living daylights out of me, whether he's wiggling his finger at a choir or flicking his golden locks back as he swishes his bow across the fiddle strings. Sorry, Carl Orff and your cracked burning bowl deserve better.

Ow that made me laugh. Been there. Had cherry bowl go bad on what should have been the last coat of finish and had to strip it just days before it was to be given as a wedding gift, I had it filled with dna and I almost put a match to it. I was so mad at myself, I really was going to burn it but talked myself out of it and now its in a friends home.
