the art of turned bowls by Richard Raffen

I'm still reading it but this has got to be the best book I've ever looked at for bowl turning. It covers everything from selecting stock, milling stock and turning. With every topic he is still discussing form and shape and has wonderful excellent photos to explain each point. I highly recommend it.

Thanks for the book review. I am pretty new to this sport and there aren't any turners in my hood that I can hang out with so I am reliant on books and videos. I have Raffin's "Complete Guide to Turning" and the accompanying video which I really enjoy. In the video he turns so fast that I usually refer to the illustrations in the book to get a sense of what he is doing in the video! I will definitely check this one out!
I have been looking over some of the other threads here and have become very interested in the spiralling and chatter effects that you and others have shown. I can't believe these are easy to learn! Is there a tool for this or do you have to learn special techniques?
