Apple and Willow Natura Edge Bowls

Here is a couple I've recently turned. I really like turning the apple and like the looks of it. but, seems to split easy. The willow doesn't have anything on it and was turned wet. Any pointers on how to finish it or what to put on it. Or leave as is.

I like the top one (the short one). Would some oil bring out that grain on the inside bottom?
How did you hold it on the lathe?

Insert witty signature line here.
