Anything other than Cross pen refills?

I apologize for all the pen questions lately. I'm so new at making pens (I've made a total of 9 pens and 2 pencils), and I really appreciate the experience that can be tapped into here. Thanks so much for the help I've already received.

::

I'm buying my pen kits from PSI. They include Cross refills and so far I'm not at all happy with the way they write.

Every pen I've made has to be "started" after it sits for a short period of time. The first few strokes don't release any ink.

Now, a pen I made today, leaves blotches -- small puddles of ink -- as it's being written with.

I've looked at other pen kit suppliers and they all seem to use these same Cross refills.

Do the higher end kits include higher end refills? I've only used the lower end pen kits (not funline)... slimline, comfort, designer, trimline. If I'm just getting what I'm paying for and the higher end kits have better refills, I can live with that. I'll buy higher end kits.

I just don't know.

Apparently I need to do a little more research before posting. I've just seen that higher end PSI kits come with Parker refills. I don't know if these are better (the refills are priced about the same at PSI), but maybe I am getting what I pay for with the lower end kits.

Although I notice that the Cross refills that I'm having trouble with have received 5/5 stars from all those who left a review.

More research, Kirk.

All the PSI kits (except those that actually state they use Schaefer cartridges) use "Cross Style" and "Parker Style" refills...cheap knock off look alikes. I've had similar issues. If I'm selling to a multipen order, I'll replace with honest Cross or Parker refills from Office Depot or the like. Also when making for friends/family. Otherwise I tell the customer what style refill it takes and let them get.

That bowl was perfect right up until that last cut...

The best ballpoint refills out there are "Private Reserve" and are available for both Parker and Cross pens. They are available from several sources but I get mine from www.Exoticblanks.com
Give them a try, you will be amazed at the difference.
