Another use for pallets

I've recently had a couple of roof shingle deliveries that have arrived on pallets made from oak mixed with a few other interesting looking woods.
So I have been laminating the wood into turning blanks.
These are the first finished projects from this wood
The bowl is oak with 3 strips of american beech? and the box is a mix of woods, 2 strips are oak, I have no idea what the rest are though I assume they are native to America. If anyone knows what they are I'd love to know!

Great bowl and box. My guess at mystery wood would be poplar.

Very nice stuff and a great way to get some free wood and use it to your advantage. Awesome job.

There is a very fine line between a "hobby" and a "mental illness"

Very Nice. I used to go to the local motorcycle shop and cruise through their pallets. I found birdeye maple, mahagony and sometimes other rare woods that come from overseas. Apparently they don't ship that way anymore, at least not to bike shops. I've looked.

Very nice use of the pallet wood, I especially like the look of the box, very intriguing.

I know in the past I used to cruise by the places that would receive 55 gallon drums of oil or chemical because they would generally have oak pallets to hold up to the weight. I think a lot of pallets are poplar or cottonwood which I think are in the same family but I'm not sure.

I want to die quietly in my sleep like my grandfather, not screaming in terror like the passengers of his car.

Good idea!

I have used them for tool handles a couple times. I came arcoss a pallet made from Redgum, not the best had alot of bark inclusions. But it was ideal for tool handles and what I could not use I cut up for future handles.

Nice bowls MGP. There's something very satisfying about saving material from the landfill and giving them new life by making something beautiful with them.

I've been saving up Pallets at work for the last 6 months. It seems most of the pallets very in wood.. I actually got the idea to do some shelves and book shelves.

Great job on the bowls!
