Re-dowel table bread board?

I was moving my table top to rest it on top of the carcass and had an accident, one corner hit the floor unexpectedly! The bread board is a bit loose on one side of the table now. I'm thinking of cutting the bread board off and re-applying it to the table top boards with dowels, again.

Anyone ever have to do this? I know, I should have gotten my neighbor to come over and give me a hand. Live and learn, I suppose.

I'm a little confused. How is the breadboard attached? How do you allow the field boards to expand and contract?
