mortise spacing

I am getting ready to order my router bits for my project. I'm mounting table skirts to legs. The legs are 4x4s and skirts are 2x6s. The tenons will be cut for 1/2" thickness along the full 6" height of the 2x6. The mortises will be straight cut 1/2" using my router into the table legs.

I can't decide what spacing to do for optimal strength and durability. If I cut them on center, they'll inevitably meet. Unless I don't need that long of a tenon? Table specs are 61" long, 37" wide.

Hows this spacing? from a top view of the leg.

on second thought my joint book says a tenon should be at least 1/3 of the mortised material thickness. So I'd need 1.16" So I can either shave 1/8" off both edges of my 2x6 on my jointer to get a perfect 1.25" or just shove the whole 1.5" in as the tenon, but it's S4S so the edges aren't perfectly sharp. I'd imagine sharper edges are better for this.

And since it's an open M&T, I think I should have the tenon not be the full 5.5" wide and rather be maybe 4" wide to allow for 1.5" of a bottom "bracket" if you will, preventing upward motion of the skirt piece.
