Looking for jointing idea for simple project

The wife wants me to build something simple like this for our kids toy storage. I'm very new to jointing with the exception of my Kreg jig. I'd like to try something new for this project. My thoughts were to possibly using a dado for the pieces to nest in and rabbet all the outside corners of the three big boxes.

All I have is my table saw with the original all steel dado, a old craftsman router and table and my miter saw.

How can you rabbet a long board on the short side? Will glue be enough to hold it all together?

I assume I'll also need some bar clamps for gluing the big boxes together.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Matt. You have a nicely drawn plan. Have you decided upon dimensions and materials? That will probably help with more responses. Dado's and rabbets may work fine for a projects like this. These are two of the most common types joinery used in woodworking.

Thank you. 2 years of drafting and a machinist background comes in handy with woodworking too.

No not yet. I had spare time at work today so I just sketched that up to make sure it's what the wife wanted.

Really I'm not sure what to use. I don't want to use plywood because of the edges and I have no experience edge banding. I've worked with poplar, oak and cherry before. Thought about trying something different. Maybe maple.

Ill try and figure out how big she wants it tomorrow.
