Kitchen Table and Dowels

I have some reclaimed hardwood (hickory?), 2 x 6 x 10. it is super hard and super heavy. i want to make a kitchen table (7ft long) with it and use only dowels. I like the look of a farmhouse table and i like the idea of using dowels all the way through the top of the table. I've read that using dowels with hardwoods can be much more problematic than softer woods. do you think it would work to attach the top table boards to the apron by drilling a hole all the way through the top boards, into the apron, and then hammering hardwood dowels (with glue around the dowel)? i would sand the top of the dowels to make the top smooth. i'm curious if dowels and glue would hold. i'd use 2 dowels at each end of each board. thank you for your thoughts.

Welcome to the forum! Add your first name to your signature line so we'll know what to call you and it will show in each post. Add your location to your profile, as well.

We do like photos so show us your shop, tools, projects, etc. whenever you're ready. We'd love to see some of those Cajon's you've built. I built one a few years ago - fun project.
