joinery issues in portable lectern
My dau has asked me to make her a lectern in my Maine summer camp and then hand carry it to CA by plane in the fall. I am looking for joinery/design suggestions.
I envision constructing the top and bottom as freestanding units each having a rectangular extension that will fit into a rectangular column. Then using 3/8 rod and knobs to connect the sections. Multiple holes will provide height adjustment flexibility. Thinking of making the rectangular columns with miters and miter splines. Pack the top and bottom as checked luggage and hand carry the column
Will attempt making base and top by edgejoining 3/4 red oak s4s purchased at Lowes. Never done edge jointing. Tool limited and skill limited. I have Kreg Pocket hole jig, PC 555 biscuit joiner, a router table and a table saw. Not much else.
