Dado Sets

If I work with a lot of 3/4 " hardwood does the quality of dado make a big difference? I'm not talking about some 20$ set, I mean is their a difference between an oshlun Dado set and a Dadonator. I know their will be some differences, one is more than twice as much as the other, but is the difference in the cuts?

Amana Dado Stack.

I have the Amana 658040 8"dado. I love it. Purchased it about 6 months ago. Best dado stack I have owned. 46 tooth, -5 deg rake. Tremendous.

The only thing I do not like is the paper shims. I purchased a set of brass ones for about $20.

I would check to make sure it also has a 3/32 chipper, 3/4 ply wood isn't really 3/4 anymore, most is 23/32, so you can stagger the cuts by 1/32 instead of 1/16, it isn't much but it makes a tighter joint

I have the Freud SD208 8-Inch Professional Dado blade set. It works well with my Bosch REAXX jobsite table saw. It has all metal shims, no paper ones.

To use dado blades on the Bosch REAXX table saw, you will need at least one Bosch TS1006 Zero Clearance insert, which are very expensive. The Bosch TS1006 zero clearance insert comes with a separate special screw for holding dado blade sets that are configured from 1/2 inch to 13/16 inches wide. Bosch calls it a "dado accessory clamp bolt". In theory, you will need extra TS1006 inserts for the different dado widths you use, but that's an expensive proposition. I hope to find or make a reusable solution someday.

Back to dado blades. I think that the Freud SD208 set has excellent quality, and gives a good value for the price. It cuts very clean for me, and comes with all metal shims.
dusty roads likes this.
