Question Coffee table top

I just completed a table top from walnut I air dried for three years, the top consisted of three pieces glued together, I took a splitter bit on my router and cut a 1/4" groove on all sides in the center of the 3/4" wood, then I cut a splin that fit in the grooves wide enought for both sides, like a toung and groove, glued and clamped, look great so I attached to table frame and finished, within one week it opened up the glue let loose, high grade glue, what did I do wrong

There is any number of things that could have happened. If the spline was even slightly loose it would have made the joint weaker. If you mounted the top to the base too firmly and the wood shrunk it could have put stress on the joint. Being winter has your glue froze some time or another?
