box joint swelling

I build speaker cabinets as a side job and I sometimes have to build them out of pine using a box joint. I usually leave the fingers a 1/16th long, sand them flat and then round them over. After a day or so the joints start to look a little wavy then i sand them flat again and they still turn up wavy. what's happening?

What are you using to sand the corners with. Box joints have an situation where you are sanding side and end grain at the same time. If your sanding backer is soft, you may be sanding the side grain deeper than the end grain? Heat and moisture can contribute. If the wood is not completely dry, the side grain fingers will shrink and the ned grain will not. If you get a higher humidity, the side grain will swell but the end grain won't.
Do you have pictures with tangential lighting that shows the unevenness?

I use a belt sander before I round over and a palm sander after. I'm pretty sure humidity is the culprit here, neither of my shops are climate controlled.
