Attaching Pine top on mdf cabinet

As the title says, I'm looking for a way to properly attach a jointed pine top to a bookcase made out of mdf.

Thinking I could just use a brad nailer, but want to ensure I allow for wood movement. Should I use figure 8 clips instead?

Any insight would be great.

Thanks!

You will be fine using a 2" finish nail.

With a solid wood top I think you would be better off with the clips.

The solid wood can move over time and conditions of humidity so you want to allow the top to move a little to not pull the MDF base apart or compromise that part of the cabinet. I sometimes use glued in corner blocks with holes drilled through them a bit larger than the screw I'm using to secure the top to the base and put a flat washer on the shaft of the screw so the head doesn't get pulled into the wood block when tightening it down.
