Question Where can I get cherry, oak, walnut and hickoryin Anchorage, AK

Hello all! I moved to Anchorage, AK recently and I want to get started on a project. I am looking to find some wood with better variation than Home Depot of Lowes. I am not getting any leads with google and hoped someone could help me out. Thanks!

Anchorage? Hmmmmmmmm......

There has to be a source up there, but you might want to search out a couple mills here in the lower 48 and see if they can ship a few boards to keep you going until you find something. You won't be able to hand-pick your lumber.............
The Amish in NE Ohio and PA run a lot of mills in that region, and they run a lot of the species you mentioned. If you establish a good relationship with them, they would certainly see to it that you are satisfied with what they send you.

It seems the USPS, Fedex, UPS, etc. can ship anything anywhere these days, so 4' to 6' stock shouldn't be a major thing to them.

Worth looking in to?

If that one does not work out for you, there is one I used many times when I lived in Fairbanks (I know that is about 350 miles North ). The name of the place is called Superior Hardwoods and this is their site. http://superiorhardwoodsalaska.com/

Good Luck!

Let us know how the place in the valley works out or you. I've been using Hardware Specialties here in Anchorage and while they are good to deal with, their selection can be a bit hit and miss. If you give a good report someday I'll drive up there to check them out.
