what's up from Northeast PA

Hey everybody, bigd here. I'm a beginner at this stuff and I'm hungry for information. The way I figure, the more I learn the more I can pass on to others. I am currently finishing my first project in my new home. So far I have been able to get by on trial and error while building a solid pine cabinet to match the existing professionally built cabinets in my kitchen. I'm now in the finishing stages and i can't figure out what the edges of the door and the routed v groove on the face of the door are finshed with. The rest of the cabinet is finished with a light stain, but the edges and groove are darker and almost look laminated. Any ideas? I know my description ain't the best but it's worth a shot. Thanks for the help and the warm welcome!
P.S. If anybody has any masonry questions I can help.

Welcome bigd.

A picture would allow one of us to give you a correct answer.

Thanks neighbor

Thanks for your help, guys. Unfortunately I can't get my pictures resized to fit as an attachment withthis message. Kodak easyshare is useless. I'll try to work it out and get back to you.
Could the finish be something to keep the edges of the doors from splintering from being opened and closed? I don't know, just a thought.
