Welcome byrd
from a fellow SW Ohio. I'm actually closer to Oxford, Ohio than I am Cincinnati.
Home of the Miami Redhawks. Now if they only had a football or basketball team.
But they do have a real Hockey team....

hives

Scott,

as of right now i don't builb my own hives, south west hive parts is just up the road and for the price its hard for me to justify building them. In the future I would like to build a dedicated shop for my hive parts.

Gerald,

good to here from another Ohio woodworker. Miami needs to find them another big ben QB. I am over in preble county every now and then, at Don Popps honey farm and went to this years pork festival. Pork festival was kinda of disappointing seeing all of the country crafts made in China.

thanks,

jeff,

bee's

I haven't lost any bees this year and the bee inspector said everything looked good, but thats what he said three years ago and I lost half my hives? I usually run 15 to 20 hives, but I am down to 8 right now. I was treating my hives with all the recommeded mite medicine and still was loosing hives. I quit treating the hives two years ago and my hives have responded alot better with honey production and numbers of bees per hive. we'll see.

wood

Gerald,

Are there any woodworking clubs around you? I used to belong to Western Ohio Woodworking, but I let my member ship get away from me and they seem to meet when I was usually working. Also what kind of woodwork do you do?
I use to work full time in Lebanon at an antique reproduction shop. Learned alot from mentor at that shop.

I think their are but I don't belong.

I build all kinds of stuff but mostly furniture. Working on an entertainment center right now.
Also last summer I purchased a small manual sawmill. (EZ Boardwalk Jr.) I have been having fun with it also. Not sure how to get you to the exact post in the thread but if you follow the link below and scroll down you will see a few pictures.

saw

I've always wanted a sawmill, but a family friend has a huge woodmizer and has sawn stuff for me. His mill is just down the road from the house its hard to justify.

I had him mill a large cherry tree for me into 12/4 about 5 years ago. still waiting for it to air dry. I have about three more big cherry trees on the property I want to take down after deer season and the wife wants me to take down a big sycamore and have it quartersawn.

I know a cabinet maker in Germantown who cuts his own trees and has them sawn. He told me that he takes his furniture from the stump to the store to sell.
