Hello everyone!

I知 Steve and live on the Mississippi Gulf Coast near Biloxi. I知 an engineer for a company that builds ships for the navy by day but spend an inordinate amount of time building and tinkering in my shop when I have free time. I have always had a passion for designing and building things but found my love for woodworking fairly recently. I was given a miter saw for Christmas 2 years ago and was instantly hooked, my tool collection has grown/drained my spending money since.

I started building simple DIY furniture for friends and family and have grown into designing my own projects to fit needs or for trying out different techniques. My shop is currently in my 2 car garage but I would love to eventually build a shop to fit my needs better on my property.

I attached my most recent project, a cabinet for my record player. Looking forward to learning from everyone here and connecting with others that share my passion. Cheers!

Welcome Steve.

Interesting design on the cabinet. A barn door is most unusual. Are you into vintage stereo? I still have my old Garrad record player, but it has not seen a record in many, many years. It sits just below my Sony tape unit which has not seen a tape in many years.

I was left speechless ......

When I saw the barn door on this cabinet, I didn't know what to think.
I'm so used to seeing it on barns and large sliding doors it was a bit of a shock to see it scaled down and used on a cabinet. Thinking "outside the box" is one of my favorite pastimes, so I appreciate the ingenuity.
i would not have done it myself, but it would make sense for a sliding door depending on the rest of the room's decor.

Welcome to the forum, Steve.

The answer to your question will only be as detailed and specific as the question is detailed and specific. Good questions also include a sketch or a photo that illustrates your issue. (:< D)

Welcome to the forum, Steve! Nice looking cabinet and I agree this is good 'thinking outside the box'. What's next? We like photos of shops, tools, projects, etc. so whenever you're ready...

Hey George,

I picked up a record player about 5 years ago and have been a fairly large vinyl collection. I enjoy having the physical copy of a vinyl record along with enjoying an album from start to finish instead of skipping around like I am custom to doing when I知 listening to digital formats. Most artists are actually releasing vinyl records of new material these days as it has made a bit of a comeback. I知 a huge music junky in general and I also enjoy supporting the lesser known musicians by purchasing their albums rather than streaming when I can.

Thanks David,

I have plenty of projects I could share, here痴 a table I built that doubles as a cooler or crawfish table, great for summer BBQs. I致e also attached a current picture of my shop in all of its dust-filled, messy glory.

Love the picnic table with the ice chest! My son has a cabinet with barn doors for his TV, DVD player and video game box. His is basically three parts; the doors cover two parts and slide to the one open part.

Nice looking items Steve

I sure wished my shop was as clean as yours, but I have been doing quite a bit of turning, the streamers can sail quite a away when the lathe is wound out

Someday I will sweep it again LOL
