staining rustic wood

Good morning all. Ineed to know if anyone has any tips on getting cut sides and ends to match on rustic wood I am using to make a covered wagon toy box . This i my first time on this site . Please help me if you can . Thank You Very Much

Help me Please !!!! How can I match the cut sides and ends of rustic wood I am it using for a covered wagon toy box? The wood is 40 years old and very rough . The cut edges need something to make them blend in to keep the rutic look and color. All comment are welcome. This is my first time on this site . I just found it today and hope somebody has an answer. Big box people cant help. Thank You Very Much All WYNDY

welcome,

End grain will stain darker than face grain.

You can even this out by sanding end grain a few grits higher, or partially sealing with a "spit coat"....thinned varnish.

Do some research on wood bleaches. But be very careful with them they are very caustic and can be dangerous to handle etc. I also heard once about using a vinegar solution on wood. Check out New Yankee archives.
