Ryan Walden

You all were such good help getting me started on that vise, thank you. I have been looking around your wesite, and I am very glad to be here; I thought I would introduce myself. My name obviously is Ryan and I am in West-Central Indiana. My dad and my grandfather were woodworkers and I have always been interested and often facinated. I was always an over-time worker. Anyway I am finally in a position to get started and am amassing my kingdom of tools. I have read so much help here already I could not contribute enough to repay. Thanks again and great site.

Welcome, Ryan. Glad to have you!

See ya around the threads.

Jean

Welcome to the forum.

There are many people who love to restore old tools, or see old tools getting a new life and also happy to help others with their restorations.

Remember to post the pictures afterwards, we love to see pictures.

My dad is still in possession of his and may have a few of my grandfather's. My grandfather was born in 1897, and his would have bwwn more in the primitive category rather than simply antiques. I really like thw old tools, I have four old box planes I will clean up along with the vise.

I am embarrassed to say I do not know which kind the planes are, and they are rough. They were my wife's grandfather's. I did think of a couple of tools though. My grandfather had an old pestle he found gardening he used to sharpen his pocket knives. I have three two- man(?) saws belonging to my maternal great-grandfather, he also had two oak boards roughly seven feet long, and real two inches by eight. They used them for butchering hogs on the family farm, I turned them into coat racks about three years ago. My grandpa was sure they were 100 years old.
