Noob from Florida checkin' in.

Hey guys,

I've been working on a general work bench and thought it looked pretty good, so with great pride as I check out my master piece, and with chest out, I think I'm ready to step up and get a router for other projects! After fumbling with the instructions on my new gadget, I finally assemble it and try out a tongue and groove cut. Scratching my head, I immediately realize that I have pretty much forgotten everything from shop class 20+ years ago.

Needing obvious help, Google turned up this site and here I am. My name is Terry and I'm from Lakeland Fl. I have 3/4 of a shop table *cough* under my belt and am ready to read and learn. I will warn you though, be prepared for me not to remain silent and show plenty of ignorance! Actually, I will try to keep it to a minimum. Searching through the site, I found words like dado, rabbet etc. and googling these terms seemed easy enough until I saw a guy post, and I quote: "double dado cross half lap joint". Yeah, I can barely say it.

Sorry for the long introduction, just wanted to make sure you knew you had a complete noob at the keyboard. Thanks in advance for some of the posts that I have read and will read trying to learn a thing or two.

-Terry

Thanks for the link Mr. Brown, I will certainly be reading it.

As I go, I am thinking I need to start with learning to properly measure/duplicate cuts from a fence, like the one on my router/table. I'm kinda' a hands on guy so when I read something, I need to physically do it at times.

You're in good company with members all around you. At least two of us in Tampa, a another Lakeland member, and several to the south of us.

Welcome to the wonderful world of cutting the wrong thing at the right time...

If Woodworking is so much fun why isn't it called WoodFUNNING?

I've made a few videos

Honestly, I really like your introduction. It's interesting way to introduce yourself.

It's a nice thing to ask and comment when you want to, that makes the internet (and the forum) goes around. Here, we always got new members who keep bringing interesting topic to the forum. And that's a good thing.

Welcome to the forum.

I'm off for the weekend, so I hope to get a little work done in the garage. I haven't had as much time as I had hoped to check out the site more but will as I can.

My neighbor across the street made his living as a carpenter. He's in his 80's though you'd never know it and he came over the other day to see what I was working on. I thought I was going to have to kick him back across the street with all the trash talking he was doing! He called my router table... Cute and let me know just how good of a job I didn't do! The guy's from Jersey tho so what do you expect! Little does he know, I'm gonna make him help me on something one of these days whether he wants to or not!

I will post more when I can.

Great site here, by the way and thanks for the welcomes.
