Newbie Looking for Black Walnut Information

Good afternoon. This looks like an interesting site with many experienced wood workers. I think that I will put this on my "favorites" list. I am an experienced woodworker who has never before worked with large pieces of black walnut.

I have been collecting black walnut boards for many years. The newest that I have has been in my garage for over two years. These all 3/4" finished two sides. As my garage is neither heated nor air conditioned these boards are in what I consider an uncured state. That is they have not been dried.

I know (unfortunately from experience) that oak and some other woods will split and/or shrink after being made into furniture and taken into an air conditioned environment. Therefore I know to take all of my oak into the house for at least two months before I use it.

Do black walnut boards have this same problem? Should I store them inside for a period of time before use or is it safe just to build the piece of furniture without waiting?

All information will be greately appreciated.

Shop Location

My shop is my garage, which I can air condition.

I use the a/c when working in there for long periods. Would be rather expensive to run the a/c long enough to cure the woods.
