newbie from Illinois

New to the forum and woodworking. This looks like a great site. All kinds of info. I have one question should i get a scroll saw or a band saw. Some of the stuff I would like to try is model cars. My uncle used a band saw to do this. My dad used a scroll saw to make everything but it seemed very slow.I'm thinking band saw . But what do I know that's why I'm asking. Thanks for your help

Welcome to the forum...personal opinion is that the band saw is more versitile...Keep in mind that I don't have a scroll saw... I have had them over the years but my kind of work doesn't require one.

The smallest blade I can use on my band saw is 1/8". The turning radius is 1/4". For many intricate cuts, that's just too big. The scroll saw may be a tad slower, but far more suitable for detailed model work.
That being said, I'd agree that for general woodworking, the band saw is more versitile.
