New to woodworking

Hi guys, I've been browsing around the site for a few days and finally decided to become a member. I'd consider myself a self taught welder and have always had an interest in woodwork but never understood the real complexity of joining without nails/screws. I love working with my hands and making things and i want to learn all that I can.

Anyways, here's a recent project I've semi-completed which combines woodworking and metalworking.

This was taken with the flash on, that's why the paint and wood look lighter.

This was my first time working with wood and after seeing what I may have done "wrong", I might be going back and making alterations to make it come out better. And by the way, not all of the slats are bolted up so that's why some look crooked. I say that it's "semi-complete" because the paint needs to be touched up to look more uniform (its a hammered finish black), and the wood needs to be fitted.

Sorry for the book, lol, but let me know what you think. Suggestions and advice are well appreciated.

I like it. All the years of welding, and all the supplies I have, I've never mixed metal and wood working. This makes me want to give it a try.

And welcome to the forum :)
