Hi everyone! My name is Brian. I'm 37, I live in Bristol, RI, and I've always been handy with tools and wood, but never really considered it a true hobby of mine. (My main hobby is film making and editing).
Recently, however, I decided that I wanted it to be a true hobby of mine. Luckily, I had an old friend that wanted to get rid of a Ridgid scroll saw, a craftsman 10" table saw, and a craftsman router. They're all still new in the box, but about 10 years old. After the death of his father, these tools were just taking up space. He didn't have the heart to sell them, rather that they'd go to a good home with someone he knew. When I told him about my new interest, he gave them to me for free (under the condition that someday I build a nice chess board for him). I also got a Kreg pocket hole jig (which I love)
Needless to say, I was thrilled! Those are three major tools I don't need to buy! I still plan on getting a band saw, a small wood lathe, and a table for the router.
Anyway, one of the first things I did was build a desk and filing cabinet for my girlfriend, using raw materials, and it felt good to build it. I can't wait to get started on my next project for her (it'll be a valentine's day present... a curio cabinet).
Nice to meet all of you, and I look forward to talking shop with you, learning from you, and sharing my experiences with you.
