New to the Forum, Newer to the Hobby

Hello Fellow Woodworkers,

I just joined up today and I am looking forward to learning and sharing as much as I can with you all. I am by all means a novice to woodworking. I do have some experience with "rough carpentry" such as home renovation, building deer blinds, and building functional furniture. I have wanted to get into finer woodworking and techniques for a while and I have recently decided to make the jump. I have a basic workshop and I have a decent set of tools but I am still trying to get a few things I need/would like. I look forward to many good discussions.

Thanks,
Jeeves

Welcome Jeeves. Sounds like you are pretty far down the road to woodworking. You have tools and a knowledge of how wood behaves. Do you have a first project in mind?

First project is a new workbench and probably some jigs. My current workbench is not the best design for woodworking and takes up too much space for my small garage shop. (it is 11 feet long). my first large furniture project will probably be a bookshelf. I may do a few other small projects first. I am currently working on restoring my late grandfathers old tools ( hand planes, hand saws, etc.) to build up my tool collection.

That is great! I don't use hand tools much such as planes and very little hand saying. It requires skill and ability to keep them sharp. With the 11' bench my hand tool of choice would be a chainsaw!

Good luck cutting it down!
