New to the forum....

Hi,
I just discovered your forum while doing a search for flame box elder. Looks like a very interesting site. I am a 51 y.o. retired firefighter from Ohio. I have a nice shop in a second garage that I have a pretty good amount of tools and equipment. I used to build houses and do a lot of remodeling. I have slowed down some now so I have more time for fun stuff. I install kitchens and baths for my brothers company. I took up woodturning on a whim a few years ago. After joining a local turning club two years ago, I am having a blast. Just bought my second lathe, a jet 1642, so now I can turn some decent size bowls. I build some cabinets and furniture items occasionally, and collect and restore vintage dirt bikes from the early seventies. I look forward to exploring this site. Looks like there is an awful lot of good information here. Well,
talk at you later, the Indians are beating the yankees right now.

Welcome to the forum Mike.
Sounds like you're having a turning good time.
My son likes to turn bowls too.

Hey Mike: welcome and glad to have you. Where did you retire from? I'm on the job in Peoria, just past the 20 year mark. There are a couple other career guys lurking about here on the forum. You know the rest of that story: lock up your wives, hide your beer and don't loan your motorcycle to anyone!

regards,
smitty

reply to Smitty

Hi Smitty,
I worked in the city of Shaker Heights, Ohio. It once was one of the wealthiest suburbs in the country. Lot of nice architecture. But most of the houses were built in the twenties and early thirties. Balloon framing, lathe and plaster walls, etc. Hard to put out at times. We had a 63 man department, two stations. I enjoyed the job, loved the guys, but got tired of the politics. I put in my twenty five years and turned 48 within a couple of weeks of each other.
