New from Alaska

Hello everybody. I'm from Kodiak Alaska, but I'm originally from Oskaloosa, Iowa. I spent much of my youth in the pits of the dirt tracks of Oskaloosa and Eldon Iowa. I'm a recently retired school teacher, and I'm now in the process of building a small shop. I've been doing woodturning for the last ten years, but I've never had a decent place to work in.

Welcome Otto. I'm new too, but I'm sure enjoying this group of charactors. Spent 4 yrs. in Fairbanks, and I think I managed to see both trees in a hundred mile radius of downtown. However. you guys down there in the banana belt have a lot of really fine cedar and Sitka spruce. Hope you have found or can find access to some of that beautiful stuff. If I could, I might just HAVE to learn to make guitars. Good luck withe the shop. keep us posted.

Otto,

Welcome from a fellow Alaskan. A couple of my very good friends were school teachers in Kodiak and teach now in the valley. This is a great site.

I thought there had to be other Alaska woodworkers out there someplace.
