magnolia wood

I am an old school floor layer refinisher and inlay work. Recently a customer of mine noticed a sizable block or cured magnolia wood that i had blocked out and roughly finished and applied some oil. He was admiring the great streaks of purple, because it came from close to the stump. Anyway he expressed an interest in myself using this wood as to the inlay pattern in the floor I am doing for him. Besides sanding and a little oil, i have never done anything with this kind of wood. It is very dense and tight grained. Has any one worked with this wood? i know they make furniture out of it but i am worried about not knowing enough about this wood to risk the considerable labor. Than you all

Get yourself in the right section like "milling" and I'm sure you will get answers.
There is much knowledge on this site to glean from if you search....

I carved a short piece of magnolia into a chain once. I was somewhat difficult to whittle with a knife but I was only making a small piece so it wasn't too bad.
