Howdy from cool upland Hawaii.

Just wanted to join up as I start doing more projects with all of the cool wood I get from my job so I can show them off. I have a small slab countertop coming up in my house due to some impromptu water damage. Will post pictures!

Thinking norfolk pine as opposed to monkeypod to get the dimensions and edge I am looking for. It also seems to finish up much nicer than people give it credit for.

Welcome to the forum! Add your first name to your signature line so we'll know what to call you.

And we do like photos so show us your tools, shop, projects, slab countertop, etc. whenever you're ready. Oh, and send some Curly Koa my way when you get the chance...

Name added, sorry about that! We do get some cool material for sure.

Ha! I could probably help with the curly Koa situation, i'll hazard a guess that it wouldn't be free though.

I have really liked some of the finished norfolk pine I have seen, it sands and finishes up much better than people expect. I'll see if I can get the time to cut this counter out this week and post some pics.

Milling 35 species of exotic wood sure is a rough day job.

What woodworker doesn't love Koa?! Welcome to the site! I've only visited Hawaii once, Maui, and of course loved it. Jealous of anyone that can successfully live there.

It's a hard place not to love, doing my best to successfully live here. In the mean time, I'm just happy with the view on my way to work!

My assistant at work is from Micronesia, he's always complaining about the layovers he has in Hawaii when he flies to his island. I think it's rather funny personally.

God I love Trigger. Inferno Cop is exactly the sort of idiocy they do, It's what makes them so cool. Met them all, great guys.
