Hi from Tucson, AZ

Hi, I'm a hobby woodworker in Tucson. Have made some furniture (end and coffee tables, bookcases, dressers, beds, etc.). I have to work in my garage, so when a project is underway the cars live outside. Biggest issue I have is finding decent hardwood to use in making furniture. Home Depot and Lowe's are useless and local specialist stores (Woodworkers, etc.) carry small and fancy wood pieces, mainly for hobbyist making boxes, pens, etc.

Welcome to the forum. I'm sure folks here can help you find some additional places to pick up the wood you need. What kind of stock are you looking for?

Hi Allen
Well, I've made some end tables, a bed, dresser, etc. Next project is a (flat screen) TV stand/cabinet. I prefer the Craftsman/Stickley design, which limits use of ply, so looking for 4/4 or thinner stock, ideally as wide as 4 ft. Knotty Alder, or similar. I've found that hard to find in So. AZ. When I visit Wisconsin (usually in Summer) I can find all kinds of wood, but it's a pain to take back to AZ.

I'm not sure of Knotty Alder, but Hood Dist. on Toole carries a nice selection of woods. I'd bet that they could get it, if you really want it.
Woodworker's source on S. Palo Verde carries quite a few species, too. IMO, while their stock is very nice, it's pretty expensive.

Welcome to the forum. There are a few of us from AZ on here. Like Gene said Woodworkers source. They may be able to order what you need if they can find it, if they don,t have it in stock.

Assumption is the mother of all foul -ups

I agree that Woodworkers Source has a larger selection than Woodcraft but they are also a little
pricey. Good luck in your hunt
