Hi, there!

I'm Oliver, nice to meet you--what a great site, thanks for all the interesting discussions! Glad to finally be a (novice) part of it!

I'll be going to Japan to study joinery in the fall--in the meantime, I'm trying to learn as much as I can as a carpenter's assistant. There's a lot to learn but it's been an adventure so far.

So, if you have any pointers (or know any woodworkers in Japan--it's been tricky to find an apprenticeship so far--) or just want to chat about joinery or anything, drop me a line!

Have a great day, everybody!

Joinery in Japan, that's awesome! Good luck with that. Welcome, BTW.

Welcome aboard. Very cool that you'll be going to Japan. Is your goal high end furniture, hand-made?

You can never have too much pepperoni on your pizza or own too many clamps.

Hi, Phinds--thanks. Yup, that's the goal! We'll see I guess. It's fascinating to see the variety of joints, and the specificity of each joint to its function. Your wood identification site is awesome! I'll definitely be studying it. Chicken blood wood is my favorite so far!

Railroadbridge,
I might be able to help you. Where are you going in Japan? I've got some connections.
