Hi there

I just joined this forum, because I have a specific question about finishing a table made of white oak (see post in the 'Finishing' section).

A few things about myself: I have practically no clue about woodworking. When I was a kid, I watched and helped my dad build all sorts of things, from chests to bookcases to wardrobes, benches, cabinets, you name it, but it didn't really stick. And I have no tools.

However, I just became a first-time home owner, and my DIY pilot light has been lit.

So, I hope to get into woodworking really soon, and I hope to be able to glean some useful insights from you all. Thanks so much in advance!

Cheers - MM

Owning a home is a great way to learn stuff. I recommend getting the the New Complete Do-It-Yourself manual that's published by Reader's Digest (or something similar). I see older copies in used bookstores all the time, and an older copy is fine if you have an older house. I also bought a house last year and have been teaching myself all sorts of things like rewiring outlets and fixtures, installing vanities, yada yada yada.

Good luck with the house and welcome to the forums.
