Hi from South Dakota
My favorite wood has been ash since I found a stray board one day in a unit of red oak. I always liked mechanics and industrial arts as a kid. I had a great high school shop teacher who introduced me to welding and metal work. Initially I was passive about woodworking. I became interested in woodworking when I was 24 in 1968.
I bought a second hand Shopsmith in 1969 and in 1974 I went into the cabinet business with my dad. My dad retired after 10 years and I bought his share. I stayed in that for 20 years total, sold the business, took 5 years off from working and away from wood. In 1994 I started to put a small wood shop back together. I have a 32' x 48' heated, dedicated shop with 3 phase power. I have 2 variety saws (PM66 and a vintage Unisaw), 2 PM 26 shapers, 3 Delta HD shapers, 18" Woodmaster, 15" PM planer, SCMI 37" widebelt sander, and the usual assortment of usual cabinet shop machines I won't list. Now I manage real estate and do interesting shop projects.
