Thumbs up Hello from West Texas

Hey there,
I am brand new to the site and wanted to say hello. I have been working wood off and on since junior high. I am sad to say my tools have been in storage for 5-6 years and I haven't built anything for pleasure in quite some time. It's not to say I haven't built anything at all.....just using tools for home remodel etc.

I am in the process of completing a 40x40 shop that will be used for woodworking as well as some occasional welding and auto work. I am planning for it to have one area of escape for important things such as shooting pool.....watching the game.....and drinking some brew.

I am currently reading old posts on "show me your shop" to try to pick up on what might work in my shop as far as work flow/different areas that are important. If you know of a particular thread that has changed your life as far as shop design goes, feel free to link it. I realize that many forums have the new guy asking the "beat to death" question and it's annoying.

I am excited that this will be a dedicated shop and I won't have to move my stuff to get the car in. It will be insulated which I have not had the luxury of before. I bought a wood stove that I am excited to use. It will have a rest room and bar area for entertaining so that will be pretty cool as well.

I have upgraded a few of my tools including a new to me grizzly TS and floor model JET jointer. 1st ever dust collector and I got a great deal on a radial arm.

My main interests in WW are cabinet/furniture construction. I am hoping to learn to build guitars soon. I really hope to spend some time with my sons and pass along the love of the craft to them before they get too old to learn anything.

I went crazy on the intro so I hope I didn't put anyone to sleep. Happy New Year to each of you. I hope to learn a few things while I am here.

Scott

Welcome Scott, glad you joined us! Sounds like you're going to have a great shop! 40 X 40, WOW! Make sure to post up some photos when it's done. Can't wait to see it. Don't worry about asking "annoying" questions. If something has been asked before someone will link the OP to another thread or even start the discussion all over again. I know what you're saying about other forums, but this place is different. Everyone is genuinely trying to help the other guy out, whether novice or experienced, and I've never seen any sniping here. It's a nice community.
